The profound unreality of Westminster
Our leaders are nuts. Bonkers. But how nuts? Where will they stop?
After decades in the climate wars, it is really quite difficult to gauge what will connect with people. I used to do very long, point-by-point rejoinders. But these are exhausting to both read and write. Some complained about prolixity. And though some liked that stuff, those pieces did not travel far. Many who are somewhat engaged in this debate seem to prefer scientific debunkings. But I have never believed these go much beyond the surface of the issue. Put simply: it’s not enough to say “the science is wrong” if the same mistakes keep being made. There’s a tension between what I want to write and what people want to read, between which there are opportunities to understand what is going on and why the green agenda is a bad idea. We can discuss science all day, but meanwhile, the herd of elephants in the room are having a party.
